Frequently asked questions

How this service works and what to ask a pro.

What does this website do?

We are a referral service. You tell us what is going on with your drain field or septic system, and we connect you with a local septic pro. We are not a contractor and we do not do the work.

Do you quote prices?

No. We do not quote prices or negotiate for anyone. You talk to the pro directly and agree on scope and payment with them.

What is a drain field?

The part of a septic system where liquid from the tank is spread into the soil. It is also called a leach field or absorption field.

How do I know my drain field is failing?

Common signs are slow drains, gurgling pipes, odors, wet or spongy ground over the field and sewage backing up. A pro can confirm what is going on.

Do I need a permit to replace a drain field?

In Florida, septic repairs and new systems generally need a permit from the county health department. Ask your contractor who applies for it.

How do I check a contractor?

Before you hire anyone, ask for their Florida license or registration number and check it with the state. Ask for proof of liability coverage, a written scope of work and a written contract. Septic work in Florida generally needs a permit, so ask who pulls it.

What areas do you cover?

Gainesville, Alachua, Newberry, High Springs, Archer, Hawthorne, Micanopy and Waldo in Alachua County, Florida.

Is this legal or engineering advice?

No. We are not a government agency, a law firm or an engineering firm. For rules that apply to your property, contact the Florida Department of Health in Alachua County.
